The artwork Cell is an especially designed space, constructed from words. The walls of the rectangular space tell the stories of people who experienced inhospitality. Among them, there are women and men of different origins, different religions or skin colours. They recount aggressive behaviours, hate speech and other nuisances they experienced in Poland.
The object is illegible from outside. Only when the viewer enters the title cell, they can read the painful testimonies. In this case, text is both the grating and the window. Hence, it is about creating a space where the text in question will function as an ornament, a net through which the reality can be perceived on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the world surrounding the viewer becomes content, i.e. the experience of violence.
The location of the object in the vicinity of the Lublin Castle, a former tsarist prison where independence fighters were kept, among others – additionally enhances the message of the work.

Graduate of the University of the Arts in Poznań. In 2016, he earned his diploma with honours in prof. Janusz Marciniak’s studio. Since the very year, he has been employed as an assistant at 12th Painting Studio. He participated in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad, e.g. 5th Odessa Biennial of Contemporary Art, Odessa, Ukraine, 9th Contemporary Art Biennial in Dresden, the Contemporary Museum in Wrocław, or the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Toruń. He is a recipient of artistic activity awards, such as Medal Młodej Sztuki (Young Art Medal) awarded by Głos Wielkopolski, as well as a grant holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the City of Poznań, and of the Rector of the University of the Arts in Poznań. He works with painting, installation and video.
