Jeremy Deller will design anti-fascist t-shirts for the Festival Open City on the occasion of the anti-fascism year and the theme of this year’s festival dedicated to hospitality. The design of the T-shirt is inspired by Primo Levi’s phrase: “Every age has its own fascism. There are many ways of reaching this point, and not just through the terror of police intimidation, but by denying and distorting information, by undermining systems of justice, by paralyzing the education system, and by spreading in a myriad subtle ways nostalgia for a world where order reigned”. This text was published in 1974 in an essay The Past We Thought Would Never Return published originally in Italian in “Corriere della sera” (8 May 1974)
